ALESSANDRA CLARKE
Born in Brooklyn.
Raised in Panama. Creating without borders.
She carries two places with her—and turns the space between them into music.
Alessandra Clarke is an Afro-Panamanian artist whose work moves fluidly between music, movement, culture, and visual expression. Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Panama from the age of five, she has grown into an artist shaped by two worlds and defined by her ability to bring them together.
PANAMA WOULD BECOME THE CULTURAL FOUNDATION OF THAT EXPRESSION.
Growing up immersed in Panamanian traditions while carrying the perspective of someone born in New York gave Alessandra a rare relationship with identity. She learned to move between cultures without needing to choose one over the other. That duality has become one of the defining forces in her artistry.
Her music moves through the rhythmic memory of Panama, the pulse of reggaeton, the freedom of jazz, and the emotional intimacy of the ballad. Rather than treating genre as a boundary, Alessandra treats it as a vocabulary—something to explore, reshape, and make personal. Her sound reflects an artist who is deeply connected to where she comes from while remaining curious about where music can go.
Among the artists she most deeply admires are Erykah Badu and Rubén Blades, whose work has demonstrated the power of individuality, storytelling, cultural consciousness, and musical freedom. Alessandra is drawn to artists who possess a point of view—artists who do not simply perform music, but create worlds around it. That sensibility is increasingly central to her own work.
BECAUSE FOR ALESSANDRA, MUSIC HAS NEVER EXISTED IN ISOLATION.
Her background in dance, theatre, visual art, and modeling has shaped the way she thinks about performance. Movement, image, styling, atmosphere, and sound are all part of the same creative language. A song can have a visual identity. A performance can tell a story without words. A photograph can carry the emotion of a piece of music. Alessandra approaches each element as part of a larger artistic universe.
Her recorded work includes Demencia, her EP, and DATE, releases that represent different moments in her evolving creative journey. Across her work, she continues to explore the space between vulnerability and confidence, tradition and modernity, rhythm and emotion.
THAT EVOLUTION IS ALREADY VISIBLE ONSTAGE.
Alessandra has performed across Panama, New York, and internationally, appearing at Centroamérica Mercado Musical, Afro Latino Festival, MacroFest, Panama Jazz Festival, Lagos Jazz Festival, American Trade Hotel, and Umami Bodega Music, as well as New York venues and institutions including Blue Note New York, Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Bitter End, and New York City Hall.
Her relationship with the communities that shaped her is especially meaningful. For approximately three consecutive years, Alessandra has performed at El Desfile de la Etnia Negra in Panama and the Panamanian Day Parade in Brooklyn. One takes place in the country that raised her; the other in the city where she was born. Together, they represent more than performance credits. They are a reflection of the cultural bridge that has always existed within her.
Her commitment to developing her craft has been equally intentional. Alessandra has participated in programs at Berklee College of Music, The Juilliard School, AMDA, and New York University. She is currently pursuing a BFA at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, where she studies on a full scholarship.
But Alessandra’s story is bigger than a list of stages, schools, releases, or accolades.
It is the story of a multidisciplinary artist who has spent her life gathering influences and transforming them into something personal. The discipline of dance. The traditions of Panama. The energy of Brooklyn. The intimacy of family. The freedom of jazz. The pulse of contemporary music. The visual language of performance. The desire to keep learning.
Her Afro-Panamanian identity is not a category she performs. It is a foundation she creates from.
Panama gives her roots, rhythm, memory, and cultural perspective. Brooklyn gives her another language—one shaped by movement, possibility, and the energy of a global city. Music is where those worlds meet.
And she is not interested in choosing between them.
Alessandra is building an artistic world that is rooted but restless, intimate but expansive, culturally specific but universally human. A world expressed through music, image, movement, and presence.
Her journey is already taking her beyond the places that shaped her. What comes next is an artist continuing to expand that world—new music, new stages, new collaborations, and new audiences—without losing the connection to the places and experiences that gave her a voice in the first place.
BORN IN BROOKLYN. RAISED IN PANAMA.
INFLUENCED BY MANY. DEFINED BY NONE.
